<p> A certain wee tot asked me to make her a new nap blanket for school. She requested dinosaurs, purple, pink, red, blue, and purple. I think this fits the bill. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/9844741793" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3700/9844741793_07c7df286e_z.jpg" id="blogsy-1379723034785.7144" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="502" alt=""></a></div>
<p> It presented a bit of a challenge. The fussy cut dinos all started at different sizes, so I needed to get a little creative with the building of the blocks. It worked out nicely I think. I am particularly fond of the pieced sashing. I didn't bind this one, because there is no batting. I backed it in flannel and "pillow-cased" it. </p>
<p>My customer was very happy with the outcome, which is most important. She was also thrilled to be a quilt holder again for the photoshoot. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/9844639414" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3669/9844639414_3fe135c3f9_b.jpg" id="blogsy-1379723034773.8267" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="885"></a></div>
<p> She's getting better :)</p>
<p>In other news, I have been a busy bee. I have finally made the decision to officially go into business! Wow, it is a lot of work. I hope to be up and running by October 1st. Stay tuned for announcements and changes here. </p>
<p>Have a great weekend,</p>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="text-align: left;clear: both; ">This quilt is a special one. Someone very dear to me is sick and the reality is, he will not be with us to see the changing of the aspens again. He loves the mountains and all the flora and fauna that goes along with them. This is my way of bringing a little bit of the mountains to him.</div>
<div class="separator" style="text-align: left;clear: both; "> </div>
<div class="separator" style="text-align: left;clear: both; "> When I saw Caroline's, of <a href="http://trilliumdesign.blogspot.com/">Trillium Designs</a>, Aspen Grove pattern for the Forest Quilt Along, hosted by Joanna at <a href="http://shape-moth.blogspot.de/">Shape Moth</a> and Julianna at <a href="http://sewingunderrainbow.com/">Sewing Under Rainbow</a>, I knew it would be perfect. Unfortunately, my paper piecing skills are quite lacking and I needed something I could get together very quickly. So, I took the inspiration from the quilt along and created this block design using a "sew and slash" method. I am very happy with the result, and better, was able to finish this in 10 days to give it to the recipient. Time is a precious thing.</div>

Come hell of high water, this important quilt will be done by next Friday morning. Be sure to check back next week to see it, I think it is pretty special. I am also contemplating a tutorial for it. </p>
<p> I finished these two little quilts last week, but never had the opportunity to post about it. These are destined to be auctioned off. I really like the finished product, especially the sweet 'girl' quilt. I think that pink binding was the perfect finishing touch. </p>

I love when I can complete an entire quilt with supplies I already own. I also love when a design idea turns out better than anticipated. This quilt fits into both of those categories. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/9086352563" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7433/9086352563_59fb58b1d6_c.jpg" id="blogsy-1371869049834.3691" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="732"></a></div>
<p>It has been gifted to a lovely friend expecting her first, a boy, in August. This little quilt turned out to be an odd size. I was more interested in the design than the dimensions, so, I deemed it a tummy time quilt. The fact that it is so high contrast and has several eye catching prints is really what makes this a great tummy time blanket though.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/9086351679" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3769/9086351679_ebbc705cac_c.jpg" id="blogsy-1371869049781.212" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="722"></a></div>
<p> I <strike>stupidly</strike> bravely backed it in solid white, so my black and color coordinated quilting really shows up. I love the look. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/9086350647" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3724/9086350647_68c0c0b775_c.jpg" id="blogsy-1371869049812.5945" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="747"></a></div>
<p> I quilted the chevrons in black and then matched thread to each of the rows of color. I think it makes the back fun, even if some of my stitching was a bit wonky. The crinkle factor helps hide most of that.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/9088567652" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7457/9088567652_130f52536c.jpg" id="blogsy-1371869049787.4856" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="377"></a></div>
<p> My little helper hard at work. She 'helps' tape the backing down and then takes it off all by herself. I basted this at night and left it for her to pull up. As you can see, she takes her job very seriously, not even changing out of pajamas before completing her task.</p>
<p>It feels good to have a finish this week. Have a great weekend!</p>

Mostly mothering, but I have been squeezing in sewing time. What I have been having a really hard time doing is blogging about it. </p>
<p>No more, I am going to try to be better about getting my projects, thoughts, and happenings out here. It really helps me and I also enjoy the link ups because it takes me to blogs I wouldn't normally visit. </p>
<p>So, without further ado, here are some of the projects I have going....</p>
<p>Auction quilts-Every three years, my husband's family has a family reunion. As part of the festivities they have an auction to help offset the cost of the next reunion. These two crib quilts are my contributions to the auction. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/9088563140" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title=""><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5327/9088563140_f472d7976b.jpg" id="blogsy-1371696051265.0288" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="325"></a>"Boy" quilt. This guy is ready to be basted. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/9086347825" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title=""><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3717/9086347825_fb122273a5.jpg" id="blogsy-1371696051233.2537" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="367"></a> "Girl" quilt. I still need to put a border on this one. </div>
<p> </p>
<p>Pack and play quilt-All it needs is binding. That's all! I guess it really should be finished now shouldn't it? </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/9086346599" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7390/9086346599_de8ecbee7d.jpg" id="blogsy-1371696051269.212" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="335"></a></div>
<p> Rainbow quilt-This one has a bit of work to be done. I plan to slice it up a bit and add some sashing. Should be interesting.</p>

The tiny tyrant calling the shots around here is light on sleep and heavy on demands. Lately, I have been itching to do just a little something for myself. Anything that doesn't involve feeding, changing, burping, or holding the baby. </p>
<p>So after lulling her to sleep in her swing (Godsend), I rifled through my scraps, pulled out an assortment and started sewing. Just willy nilly. No plan, except that I planned to cut my finished piece into several mug rugs and quilt them. This is what emerged. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8749590668" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7317/8749590668_d7ac805204.jpg" id="blogsy-1368840198400.3232" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="352"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8749591070" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7281/8749591070_e11b03635d.jpg" id="blogsy-1368840198402.3574" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="333"></a></div>
<p> This was about 15 minutes of sewing and cutting. I didn't even press the seams! It was so liberating. If that admission didn't make you clutch your pearls, the next surely will...</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8748466785" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7321/8748466785_d8f37ca128.jpg" id="blogsy-1368840198409.7346" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="333"></a></div>
<p> I quilted every single one without basting! I plan to attach the binding tonight and then have little hand sewing projects to pick up when I have a minute or two. </p>
<p>I also have been working on a baby quilt for an auction. So far, patch work galore. I am still trying to decide what kind of border it needs.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8749590840" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7283/8749590840_480d8be262.jpg" id="blogsy-1368840198337.1938" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="333"></a></div>

Hooray!</p>
<p>Here is my Swoon block in all of its Tula Pink glory. I really like how it came together. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8601613638" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8102/8601613638_58d85dc882.jpg" id="blogsy-1364601586742.9758" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="335"></a></div>

<p style="text-align: center;"> <em>Dowel and pocket hanger</em></p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> <em>My favorite detail. See them scurry?</em></p>

<p> I also whipped out a few self binding receiving blankets. I found the tutorial on YouTube. The lovely Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilt Company provided the tutorial. Good stuff. </p>
<p>For next Friday's finish, I would really like to be posting a picture of a new baby. Fingers crossed. </p>

I thought a back seat cover would be a perfect gift and this is what I came up with...</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8559938245" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8239/8559938245_0a5992f29e.jpg" id="blogsy-1363389074288.4556" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="457"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8559938603" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8235/8559938603_30198ec2d6.jpg" id="blogsy-1363389074373.764" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="479"></a></div>
<p> I used this as an opportunity to try a few things out. I pieced the batting and the backing, both of which I had never done. It was really good practice. I certainly learned a few things. I was also so happy to use up scraps. The batting, binding, and backing are all scraps. That makes me feel so accomplished. I hate wasting even the smallest of leftovers because, as you all know, this <strike>addiction</strike> hobby can be quite expensive. </p>
<p>I have an exciting evening planned, I am going to try to start quilting my Swoon block wall hanging. </p>
<p>Happy Friday!</p>

I finished this top...</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8539766810" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8239/8539766810_7fc1d09505_z.jpg" id="blogsy-1362804402580.8354" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="532"></a></div>
<p> It is a gift, so I will save the details until it is completed and gifted. </p>
<p>I finished piecing the top on my <a href="http://nap-time-crafter.blogspot.com/2013/03/swooning.html">Swoon</a> block...</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8539766348" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8105/8539766348_c95c77782d_c.jpg" id="blogsy-1362804402559.457" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="667"></a></div>
<p> I love this color combo. This will ultimately be a wall hanging. I am excited to get it quilted. </p>
<p style="text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="text-align: center; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">I also whipped up this little sprocket pillow for the guest bedroom...</span><span style="text-align: center; "> </span></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8538685331" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8506/8538685331_e22c07ac5b_z.jpg" id="blogsy-1362804402605.0276" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="509"></a></div>
<p> Isn't it so cute? I just love it. I think I love it even more because I was able to work in a scrap piece of that sheet set I bought to back my <a href="http://nap-time-crafter.blogspot.com/2013/02/slow-progress-is-better-than-no-progress.html">squirrel</a> project. Using every bit I tell you! I used this <a href="http://www.cluckclucksew.com/2011/03/tutorial-sprocket-pillows.html">tutorial</a> Allison, over at Cluck Cluck Sew, gave the Internet. So thankful for generous, talented people willing to put their hard work out there for free. </p>
<p>Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Linking up to <a href="http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/2013/03/log-cabin.html">Crazy Mom Quilts</a>.</p>

This one needs to be short and sweet. After cramming a <a href="http://nap-time-crafter.blogspot.com/2013/02/dancing-quilty-jig.html">big project</a> into the shortest month (and finishing!), I need a lighter, less stressful, load this month. </p>
<p>So, my goal? I will be making a wall hanging out of one <a href="http://thimbleblossoms.bigcartel.com/">Swoon</a> block. These blocks finish at 24 inches square, so it will be perfect for the space I am making it for in the baby's room. I haven't accomplished anything past purchasing the pattern and picking out the fabric. </p>

<p style="text-align: left;">My big helper isn't here and I just couldn't wait to put up this post. Perhaps when he gets home there will still be daylight and I can take a better picture. </p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The quilting just about did me in. My machine was having fits and skipping stitches and I could not figure out what was causing it. It was very frustrating. I am so glad for A Lovely Year of Finishes. No doubt, this sweet top would have languished in a state of unfinished-ness for too long. </p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I have already decided what my March project will be. It is much smaller. More on that in another post. </p>

How are you out there? Things here at Nap Time have been a bit stressful, but we are working through it. A sick toddler isn't good for Mom's already high blood pressure. But, I am officially 32 weeks pregnant today, which is awesome! Five full weeks more pregnant than I was when I delivered my little miracle girl. The blood pressure issue is making my doctors a bit antsy, as you can imagine, so my progress on things has really sloooooowed down while I rest and take it easy. *sigh*</p>
<p>I am still sewing, but I am limiting my time at the machine. Even with that restriction, I did manage to get a finish this week! Behold my squirrel lap quilt in all of it's glory ("mommy, there's no squirrels on dat blankie")</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8498591262" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; "><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8508/8498591262_7df9d8656c.jpg" id="blogsy-1361559565268.9165" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="333" height="500"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><em>Big quilt holder</em></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8497489913" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8237/8497489913_fbb121f669.jpg" id="blogsy-1361559565256.7773" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="333" height="500"></a></div>

<p> I attempted a new binding technique. It is Sharon Schambers glue technique and let me tell you, works like a dream. I am officially a convert. Look at that mitre! You can find a video of it on YouTube. I only used glue on the back and machine stitched in the ditch from the front, but I may go full monty with it next go round. She suggests a much more intensive process than I used, I encourage you to check it out. **I used <u>washable</u> Elmer's glue, and it washed out just fine**</p>
<p>I quilted it with a decorative serpentine stitch and my walking foot. I really like how it turned out. The backing is part of a fitted sheet. I found the set on sale at Ross and fell for the print. Even on sale it was still a bit more than I wanted to pay, so I am going to make sure I use every little bit. I splurged because of the print AND it is Egyptian cotton. So soft!</p>
<p> I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I am off to figure out a hand sewing project I can do while sitting with my feet up. I see hexies in my future!</p>

Feels good to have that step behind me. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8475243853" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8100/8475243853_1492a52d4f.jpg" id="blogsy-1360950160079.3896" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="335"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8475244349" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8392/8475244349_90a2193b3f.jpg" id="blogsy-1360950160066.8928" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="333"></a></div>
<p> I have been going back and forth on how to finish it. I swear ruminating is a longer part of the process than actually sewing, quilting, and binding :) I think I have finally settled on a small white border, maybe 2 inches, an all over large meander quilting, and a scrappy binding. After all that, I have to find the best way to attach it to the wall. Any suggestions there?</p>
<p>And now, for an accountability photo. This is the baby/guest room currently...</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8475270147" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8104/8475270147_4e2489fcee_c.jpg" id="blogsy-1360950160024.4868" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="747"></a></div>
<p> I have GOT to get this room in order! Hopefully, when I post about my finished pinwheel quilt, I can also post a finished bedroom! Putting this mess out there will provide a bit of motivation, I believe. </p>
<p>I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. </p>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8474474932" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8100/8474474932_3a56e850e7.jpg" id="blogsy-1360871075335.1765" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="333"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8474475414" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8246/8474475414_5886d13743.jpg" id="blogsy-1360871075394.946" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="333"></a><br>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Swoon! </div>
<p>The prints in the first picture are all Sarah Jane, isn't she so talented? I love her stuff. The 'polk dots' are all Robert Kaufman Spot On. I have no shame, these fabrics make my heart happy. Even better? When I opened the package Charlotte immediately claimed the little whale/narwahl fabric as her 'favorite fabric ever!' I am sorry honey, I think I am passing down the obsession. </p>
<p>As an aside, I am also loving <a href="http://www.hawthornethreads.com/">Hawthorne Threads</a>. They are an online fabric company with fast and friendly service, but really it is their wonderful selection that keeps me coming back. I live in Texas, which means I live in Moda country, so it can make finding other designers and manufacturers a bit difficult. Don't get me wrong, I love Moda, but there are just so many wonderful fabrics out there and I really want to see, feel, and sew with them all! Also, I should point out that I have no affiliation with Hawthorne Threads and was not compensated in any way. Just sharing the love :)</p>
<p>I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful day!</p>

Most of the time, I absolutely love being her all time favorite person in the world (sometimes it can be a bit exhausting, but I am sure you all don't know anything about that :) She likes to sit with me when I sew and we talk and play and she asks one million questions and I try my best to answer them all. She knows that pins are sharp and the iron is hot and that she is not allowed to touch either of them. I really cherish this time we spend together. I want her to know that she can do anything by applying herself and trying and I hope our sewing time will help teach her that lesson in a small way. </p>
<p>She asked me not long ago if she could sew with me, so we gathered some scraps and she sat on my lap and we sewed through those scraps until her little heart was content. A week or so later, I found myself at JoAnn's, with her in tow, and all of their flannel was on sale (60% off!). So, I let her pick her favorite one and got a two yard cut of it. </p>
<p>Today she asked if we could sew a blanket. And that is exactly what we did. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8454964796" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8106/8454964796_32e23c46e6.jpg" id="blogsy-1360343243680.254" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="333" height="500"></a></div>
<p> She sewed this entire blanket! We put right sides together and stitched around, turned it and she poked out the corners (with her tiny little fingers), then she chose a zig zag stitch and we top stitched around the edges. After that, I told her we probably needed some stitching in the center to keep everything in place and she decided we needed three lines of zig zag stitching at random intervals across the blanket. When it was time to clip threads, she got upset I wouldn't let her use the "big girl scissors" and she threw a tantrum, as 3 year olds are wont to do. She ran to her room and slammed the door (yes, already, at 3). I decided the blanket needed another little touch, so I did this, to remind her that I love her, even when she is being a stinker...</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8453872977" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8228/8453872977_962ebf97a7.jpg" id="blogsy-1360343243689.4985" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="333"></a></div>
<p> She got over her tantrum fairly quickly and she is in LOVE with her blanket. We even had to FaceTime Grandma to show her. </p>
<p>I am so proud of her. This is our first official project completion together and I am looking forward to many more :)</p>
<p>Cheers, Katie </p>

Someone must have been listening, because the sewing fairies smiled upon me and I was able to cobble together almost two hours of sewing to finish this quilt top! This is my <a href="http://nap-time-crafter.blogspot.com/2013/01/distracted.html">"squirrel"</a> project I mentioned earlier this week. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8436567256" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8465/8436567256_0280f3070b.jpg" id="blogsy-1359752842154.2942" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="333"></a></div>
<p> And as if that wasn't enough, my husband came home early and was able to hold it up for a proper outdoor lit photo! I must be living right :) Now, how to quilt it? </p>
<p> Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.</p>

<p>I will press on though. I decided I may need a bit more incentive to get the baby's quilt done in a timely manner, so I am going to link up to <a href="http://www.fiberofallsorts.blogspot.com">Shanna</a> and <a href="http://blog.sewbittersweetdesigns.com">Melissa's</a> A Year of Lovely Finishes. I missed January and I doubt I will be able to participate every month this year, but I will jump in when I can. </p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://blog.sewbittersweetdesigns.com/?page_id=3033" title="A Lovely Year of Finishes"><img src="http://blog.sewbittersweetdesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/2013btn128.gif" id="blogsy-1359733879828.2065" class="" alt="My Button" width="128" height="128"></a></p>
<p>Up this month? My pinwheel quilt for the baby's room. We had to get rid of our big guest room furniture so that we could fit a guest bed AND a crib into the third bedroom. I decided the now frameless bed would need a visual headboard and what better than a quilt hanging on the wall to act as one? </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8435629808" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8324/8435629808_567286a01a.jpg" id="blogsy-1359733879865.7163" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="333" height="500"></a></div>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em> My pattern</em></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I am using Bonnie and Camille's Ruby line with a bit of Vintage Modern mixed in and Michael Miller painters canvas as the background. </p>

<p> So far, all of my HSTs are done. I have all of my 3.5 inch squares cut, squared, and separated into blocks. I also have 9 of the 20 blocks sewn together. </p>
<p>My goal is to have it completely finished by February 28th. Sewn, basted, quilted, and bound. The whole nine yards. </p>
<p>Wish me luck! What are you all working on?</p>

<p> This is what my family would affectionately call a "squirrel" project. As in, "Did you squirrel on the laundry, because it is still sitting in a basket on the floor NEXT to the washer?" I could not help myself. I bought two charm packs of Comma, by Zen Chic because I thought I was super in love with it and it turns out, I love it more in person! I will be buying and stashing yardage for sure when it becomes available. I decided to make a lap quilt for myself. I know, scandalous, making something for myself feels a little naughty. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8428958147" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8071/8428958147_2df0ec07fb.jpg" id="blogsy-1359553539207.189" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="333"></a></div>
<p> I am going to sew them all up into scrappy 16 patch blocks with a solid patch here and there. I am so excited.</p>

<p>You may or may not know that I am currently "baking" a baby girl. Good gracious does that take a lot of energy! Do you know what else takes a lot of energy? A three year old, who has absolutely no regard for Mommy's condition. I wouldn't change it for the world though. We feel so blessed to have a happy healthy daughter and to be adding to our small family.</p>
<p>Becoming a big sister is still somewhat foreign to our little angel. We have tried to draw parallels for her using her cousins and classmates as examples, but those babies go home and don't really affect her much. I am sure I am not the first (or last) Mom to worry about how baby 1 is going to handle baby 2, but I am trying to anticipate some of this issues and avoid the ones that I can and, hopefully, ease the ones that I can't. </p>
<p>I decided to put together a big sister bag. I plan to give this to her when she comes to meet baby sister in the hospital. Of course, I had to make a bag first. Thank you again to Jeni Baker's lined drawstring bag <a href="http://www.incolororder.com/2011/10/lined-drawstring-bag-tutorial.html">pattern</a>. This size is bigger than the free tutorial provided on her site. I am definitely getting my money's worth with that pattern. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8413244349" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8352/8413244349_d8f6b4916f.jpg" id="blogsy-1359211223971.7637" class="aligncenter" width="333" height="500" alt=""></a></div>
<p> I also made this great little portfolio that we will add to the bag. I used this <a href="http://terryatkinson.typepad.com/atkinsondesigns/2008/12/airplane-art-binder.html">tutorial</a>, making a few tweaks here and there. I really like how it came out. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8414343796" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8232/8414343796_97a50583a5.jpg" id="blogsy-1359211224063.7625" class="aligncenter" width="333" height="500" alt=""></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8413245791" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8336/8413245791_05786b9157.jpg" id="blogsy-1359211224014.5684" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="333" alt=""></a></div>
<p> The bag will also have her official big sister t-shirt, a small digital camera we have but no longer use, and a necklace made by my very talented sister (you can find her <a href="http://aplcreations.com/">here</a>). I haven't decided if that is a complete list or not, but it is certainly a good start. Do any of you have any suggestions?</p>
<p>Hope you all have a great weekend!</p>

I feel like that is such a huge accomplishment and it makes me feel more prepared. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8392695934" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8361/8392695934_e29c05f518.jpg" id="blogsy-1358528884423.546" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="333" height="500"></a></div>
<p> Isn't she so cute and sunny? Seriously, if you haven't hopped over to Jeni Baker's site at <a href="http://www.incolororder.com/2011/10/lined-drawstring-bag-tutorial.html">In Color Order</a> and tried this pattern, you really should. She has a free tutorial, but I have purchased the pattern and it is wonderful. It is so easy to follow and you can make any size you need. Check it out. </p>
<p> I am also experimenting with a no binding baby quilt. This is the first prototype. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8391611589" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8088/8391611589_8fbfa5d0b0.jpg" id="blogsy-1358528884422.218" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="333"></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8391613473" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8234/8391613473_1e8f5d794f.jpg" id="blogsy-1358528884395.3242" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="333" height="500"></a></div>
<p> A certain three year old was absolutely thrilled to be the official quilt holder for this photo session. She always wants to help Daddy when he holds up the bigger projects for me and she thought it was pretty special that this one was just the right size to do it all by herself. </p>
<p>My goal here is to stretch charm packs into great little quilts for Project Linus, a charity near and dear to myself and my family. I cut the backing to the exact size of the quilt top, "reverse basted" the batting to the backing piece, and sewed all the way around leaving an opening to turn. I have a few tweaks to make on the next one and perhaps I will take photos as I go and post a tutorial here. We will see. </p>
<p>Happy Friday!</p>

We are working on getting back into our family routine and trying to get the house in order. Hopefully that will pave the way to more creative time for me, that I will then share with all of you. I keep telling myself we have some major adjustments coming, but I guess I won't worry about that too much until baby girl makes her appearance. </p>
<p>I can finally share with you a big finish in 2012. I made this runner for my mother-in-law for Christmas. At 70 inches long, it is one of the biggest projects I have completed. I am really proud of it and I believe my MIL loves it, which is most important. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8361668355" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8083/8361668355_65c7d4a5c7.jpg" id="blogsy-1357704260590.0413" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="333" height="500"></a></div>
<p> The quilting was very time consuming, but definitely worth it. I stitched in the ditch around each star point and then echo quilted all the white spaces. Here is a close up. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8362732092" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title=""><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8474/8362732092_dbdd3b2a30.jpg" id="blogsy-1357704260591.0896" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="333" height="500"></a></div>
<p> The floral print is a bluebonnet and that was my jumping off point. I wanted to feature that in some way, so I whipped up these two hot pads to match the runner.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8362732710" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8503/8362732710_edcf694332.jpg" id="blogsy-1357704260619.8313" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="333"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8362733742" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8075/8362733742_2ce8970674.jpg" id="blogsy-1357704260635.1274" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="333"></a></div>
<p> Amazingly, I also have a 2013 finish to share. I started this top late last year, but didn't like the way it was shaping up and of course, with Christmas looming all non essential projects were eschewed. Anyway, I decided my main squeeze needed a recliner blanket (what husband of a fabric hoarding wife doesn't?) and this was the result.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8362734646" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8089/8362734646_2fb3b49f33.jpg" id="blogsy-1357704260668.878" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="335" height="500"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8362735402" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8356/8362735402_68438e3b07.jpg" id="blogsy-1357704260598.557" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="335" height="500"></a></div>
<p> I love the colors and the Michael Miller Zoology print. It goes with absolutely nothing in the living room and is a bit juvenile, but I am fairly certain my two biggest fans could care less. I backed it with a twin sheet and quilted it with simple "straight" lines every two inches. It is super soft and a perfect size for him to use in his chair, with enough room to spare for the munchkin.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/8362736174" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8234/8362736174_4367265c05.jpg" id="blogsy-1357704260618.167" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="333" height="500"></a></div>
<p> Wishing all of you a wonderfully creative and fulfilling 2013!</p>

I got a little crazy and made a bunch. <br/><br/><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28085924@N00/7966973986" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8033/7966973986_e5e6073e18.jpg" id="blogsy-1349655561386.774" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="333"></a></div>

I love how they turned out. I went ahead and bought the pattern from Jeni Baker over at In Color Order. It has the dimensions for several sizes, including that cute tiny bag, AND a worksheet so you can figure out what your fabric requirements would be for any size bag you could ever wish to make.<br/><br/>I have been meaning to post about this for some time, but I have been very busy with a BIG project. It has been taking up a lot of my time and energy these days :-)<br>
